A provisional spending plan for the coming year will likely see reductions in the coming weeks. The Faculty Senate also heard an ad hoc committee report on academic freedom and censure.

The Faculty Senate heard reports on undergraduate education, student affairs, and emeriti during its Thursday meeting. The president and provost also provided updates.

The Academic Integrity Working Group updated senators on its proctoring pilot, which is expected to take two to four years, and an ongoing study of academic integrity at the university.

“This time is a test of our ability to work together and with other universities and with the country to chart a course of continued excellence guided by clear and enduring principles,” President Levin told the Faculty Senate on Thursday. He also announced that a committee will look into increasing the size of the undergraduate class.

The Faculty Senate heard an update from university leadership on several federal policy matters and approved research policy modifications on Thursday.

On Thursday, the Faculty Senate heard updates on the university’s response to recent executive orders and from the AI at Stanford Advisory Committee. Senators also voted on two senate governance matters.

Leaders of the Associated Students of Stanford University outlined key student concerns and priorities during Thursday’s Faculty Senate meeting, while Stanford’s president discussed implications of the new presidential administration for the university.

The Faculty Senate voted against rescission of its 2020 censure of Scott Atlas and heard presentations on the Graduate School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Humanities and Sciences, and School of Law during its last meeting of the calendar year.

Deans from the schools of Education, Medicine, and Sustainability shared their schools’ guiding priorities with the Faculty Senate on Thursday.

A vote on the censure of Scott Atlas will return to the Faculty Senate on Nov. 21. The senate will also have a committee review key issues of academic freedom and the Faculty Senate’s role in matters of censure.
